Krafty Tips and Tutes - Gelatos!

Hello there everyone! Happy Monday!

Welcome back to another Tips and Tutes! Today I want to share with you some awesome techniques you can use when you play with Gelatos! Gelatos are made by Faber-Castell and are compact acid-free pigment sticks that can glide on creamy smooth for vibrant color and coverage.  All Gelatos® blend easily with or without water. What is also pretty cool is that you can use them on paper, canvas, or wood!

Below is a list of what I tried the Gelatos on:
- wood
- flowers
- frame
- texture medium
- stickles
- watercolour paper

There are several other mediums you can use this on such as the crackle paint in the picture and canvas.

Here are what some of the items looked like after I used the gelatos to alter them.

Here are some of the finished products after using the Gelatos on the different mediums. For the tags to the left - I took some green Gelato and mixed it with the white texture paste. I then layed the stencil I wanted over the tag and spread the paste over and pulled up the stencil. NB: when you are using any type of paste and stencils make sure to have a large enough container with you with warm water you can plunk the stencil into after - you don't want the paste to harden. Best to remove as quick as possible.

I then stamped some of the flowers from our BUDS & BLOOMS set onto watercolor paper. For these flowers I smeared the gelatos right on top and then took my finger - with a bit of water and rubbed the color around. They were then fussy cut and put on the tag with pop dots to give it a layered look.

For the card to the right - I also took some watercolor paper and smeared the light blue and green on the rectangle. I then used some water and a paintbrush to even out the tone. For the clouds though I did something a bit different. I used my Tim Holtz mat, if you don't have one a plate or parchment paper would also work, and rubbed the Gelato onto the surface. I mixed this with a bit of water and used it exactly like paint!!! This way I was able to better control the vibrancy of the Gelato.

On my card I used LOOK FOR RAINBOWS - another great set we just released.

Another medium as mentioned above is wood! I have a lot of wood veneers as I am sure most of you do as well. I tried two different methods to color the wood. The first I took the Gelato and smeared it directly onto the wood and then used some water to even out the color. On the other one I put the Gelato on my mat and mixed it with water. Using my paintbrush I then colored the veneer. I then stamped one of the sentiments from YOU LIFT ME UP onto the heart that I colored.

On the white flowers I mixed the Gelato with water and painted it on. Another technique I used on one of the flowers was scrapping some Gelato off the stick and onto my mat. I then mixed it with some stickles - this changed the gel that the glitter is in to the colour I choose. I then put this on the flower.  Below is the card I used these flowers on. I also used a stamp from our LOVE STORY SENTIMENTS.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial on some of the ways you can used your Gelatos!!!! I look forward to seeing what you do!

Cheers - Alexis~
