Krafty Tips & Tuts - Simple Background Colouring

Hello everyone! Krafty Girl Delphine here to share a simple background today! White always looks very elegant on cards, but for a different look, you can add colour to the background of your image - something I do quite often and learnt from my friend Zoe. I made an ATC last week using that technique with Treena Twinkles and thought some people might be interested in how I coloured the background, so I've made another one to share.

Materials:
Distress Inks (Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire)
Mini Ink Blending Tool
Copics
and your favourite Kraftin' Kimmie Stamp ;)

Step 1

Stamp your image - Treena Twinkles here - in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colour the skin. I always colour the skin first to make sure I won't put dark colours from around onto the skin.

Step 2

Pick a Copic in the shade you want, making sure you have Distress Inks in the same shades. Since I'm going to use mostly blue Distress Inks, I chose my B02 Copic. To colour the background, make circular movements and start from the lines of your image and go towards the edge of your paper, then come back towards the black lines, then colour going towards the outside, and repeat until you have all the background covered. I almost do not lift my Copic from the paper when I do that, to avoid having visible sections.

Step 3

Colour your character completely to save the Distress Ink part for the end (to avoid putting Distress Ink on the image with your hand by accident, adding Distress Ink is to be done at the end;)).

Step 4

Now to Distress Inks :) We're going to use three shades of Distress Inks: Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire. Start with the lightest shade - Tumbled Glass. To apply the ink, I always put a plastic sheet under my image (I don't have a craft mat) and I use the small round Blending Tool. Apply the ink doing circular movements, starting on the plastic sheet, then overlapping your paper and moving closer to the image little by little. Once close to the image, lift your Blending Tool and start again from the edge of your paper to work towards the image until you have covered all the surface.

Step 5

Take your second shade of Distress Ink - Faded Jeans for me - a shade a bit darker than the first, and apply always starting from the edge of your paper and working towards the image but do not go as close to the image as you did with your first shade of Distress Ink.

Step 6

Take your third Distress Ink, your darkest one - Chipped Sapphire for me and apply on the edges of your paper really staying on the borders of your paper - you don't want to cover all the Faded Jeans from the previous step, you want to add contrast to the background.

Step 7

Make your card! I stamped a sentiment from the Treena Twinkles set and added a bit of gold on the edges of my image and that was it.

Here are two other examples of cards I made in the past, using the same background technique:

Using Little Orphan Annie rubber stamp and Love Story Sentiments clear stamp set

Using Treena Twinkles - yes, I LOVE her!!

Thank you very much for your visit, have a great day! Hugs,
Delphine xx

Krafty Tips & Tuts - Making Stationery

Hi Everyone!!!  Krafty Girl Alexis here with a really quick tutorial to share with you today.

I love how in today's electronic age with text messages and emails sending snail mail is gaining huge popularity again so today I wanted to share with you how to easily dress up your letters!!! I myself just got a new pen pal in the US and wanted to create some really neat personalized stationery to send to her.

In this tutorial I created two completely different looks. I used a variety of different products. I used Kraftin Kimmie Stamps including The Ocean Background stamp, Treena Twinkles, Buds and Blooms, and Butterfly Dreams! For inks I used Momento Black and several colors of distress ink by Tim Holtz. The paper I used is G. Lalo Verge de France White A5 paper.

For the first letter, I used black in with some of the Kraftin Kimmie Stamps images on the paper. With this you can either continue one of two ways. The first, you can leave as is for the receiver to color in. We all love to color and how cool would that be to color the bottom of your letter!!! The other option is to colour it in yourself. Either way I believe would be beautiful!!!

On this letter I used Black Momento ink, and the stamps I used were The Ocean Background stamp and Treena Twinkles!!!

For my second letter I used Buds and Blooms and Butterfly Dreams. Since the flowers contained solid images I used those with several pink shades of distress ink. I stamped these in the corners varying the color and sizes.

In the picture above I have stamped three flowers in each of two corners. I used Worn Lipstick, Tattered Rose, and Spun Sugar.

Next I added some leaves using peeled paint Distress Ink. I used both the solid and the lined images to create different looking leaves around the different flowers.

Next I used Shaded Lilac Distress Ink to create the little dots around the flowers. I love that this added a bit more color to the paper! :)

Lastly I added some butterflies from Butterfly Dreams to finish off the paper!

Hope you enjoyed today's tute!!!

Underwater background tutorial with Copic markers!

Hi everyone!

Here's an extra blogpost for you, it's an underwater background tutorial.
The original was for the Colourstock blog, written in Dutch, but I translated it for the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps fans!

First I stamped this gorgeous mermaid from the brand new set "Mermaid Friends" by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps. Mostly you see the water is a little bit darker at the bottom of the sea, so I started to flick a little around her tail with BG45. I always start to flick by the tail towards the edge of the paper.
It's useful if your image is not already colored, otherwise you'll pull out the color of her tail out the image .

Go over the previous surfaces with your BG34 and flick a little wider. I added some BG34 at the height of her belly too. It's important to use the flicking technique because we don't want a smooth effect.

Blend the area's with BG23 and add a new part at the height of her head.

Repeat the previous steps with BG45 and BG23 to darken up the area's.

Blend everything together with BG11. If you don't get a nice blend, check if you still have enough ink in your marker. That will make things much easier!

After we did the background we can add a lightsource. Just take a pencil and draw an arrow to give you an idea where the light is comming from.
Use your blender to draw some stipes from the corner to the edges of the paper in fan shape.

The left part of the image has to become a bit lighter than the right part because the light is coming that way, so I added some BG10 between the blender stripes. At the right side I've added some BG11 instead.

It would be fun if you could see the sun shining through the water, so you can add some YR20 in fan shape to the upper left corner of the coloring. Now it looks like a sunny day underwater.

After the background was finished I've colored the gorgeous mermaid and I used the colors that were in the Doodlebug paperpad "Under the sea".

Here are all the Copic colours I've used:
skin: E13, E11, E00, E000
lips: R29, R24
hair: E37, E35, YR23, Y21
star: YR07, YR04, Y38, Y35
top: RV19, RV55, RV52
tail: RV19, RV55, RV52, B00, B02
dolphin: B99, B97, B95, B93, B91
background: BG45, BG34, BG23, BG11, BG10, blender, YR20

As finishing touch I've added some white dots with a white Molotow marker and clear Wink of Stella on her tail so it looks like the tail sparkles.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! It would be great if you can let us see your work with the tutorial featuring Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps in the Kraftin' Kimmie Krafty Friends Facebookgroup!
