Krafty Tips & Tutes: Making a Gift Box

Hello everyone, Krafty Girl Tracy here, sharing a tutorial on how to create a gift box. I used the SMARTY PANTS stamp set to decorate this box.

This box was used for a set of 12 note cards (with envelopes) and the box measures 6 x 4 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches.

The base of the box will be cut at 9 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches. You will want to use a heavier weight cardstock.

Score your box at 1 3/4 inches, rotate the paper and repeat on all sides.

Fold on your score lines.

To create the flaps of your box, on two (opposite) sides, cut on the score line up to the intersecting score lines.

Apply a strong tape or adhesive to the corners

Fold in the flaps with the adhesive and adhere them to the side panel for all 4 corners.

For the lid you will repeat the steps above. The size of the cardstock will be a slight bit larger. I added only 1/16 inches to my base measurement. You could go up to 1/8 inch to your base if you want your lid more loose.

Again score at 1 3/4 inches on all sides, fold and repeat the cuts for the flaps.

Be sure to decorate the lid first before you assemble.

Here is a look at the finished box, complete with the set of note cards. There is enough room in the box to add a few extra treats.

Here is another example of a gift box. This one measures 5 3/4 inches square. The cardstock for the base of your box will measure at 9 1/4 inches square. Score at 1 3/4 on all sides. Again the lid will be 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch large than the base size with the same score at 1 3/4 inches on all sides).

Thanks for joining me today for this tutorial. I hope you will try creating your own box and share it with us over in the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Krafty Friends group on Facebook. We love to see what you are creating with your fabulous Kraftin' Kimmie stamps.

Have a KRAFTY day!

Krafty tips and tutes - Frantage/UTEE around your image

Hi! Krafty Girl Lisa here with a tutorial.

It's not new, but it's still out there and a lovely way to "decorate" around your image.

I'm talking about Frantage or UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel).
It's those larger grains of embossing powder we like to use here.

Frist of all, I colored up my Mermaid from the set Fin-tastic Friends,
and then die-cutted her in the shape I wanted.

Then comes the fun and tricky part, to sprinkle those grains around the image.
TIP! Just do it little by little!

The fun part is that you can't have total control of the powder, but it can also be frustrating.
You can always take a pinch of powder and add to your image for a little bit better control.

If your grains places themself in totally the wrong place (like in the middle of the image or so) you can just take a small brush and shove it aside.

With first part in place, use your heat gun and heat *from below*, that's important as
the embossingpowder doesn't stick to anyting and you'll blow it away if you try something else.
Watch your fingers so you don't get burned!
That's also why it's easiest to do small parts in a time, so you can hold your fingers in the other end of the paper safely. Also remember to point the heat gun AWAY from  you under the paper, keep attention of what you are doing. *smile*

Continue all away around where you like your decorative "dots".

Here you can see I added some more on top of the first layer.

Finished all the way around.
Now to make a card with this beautiful girl.

I think you'll notice it's a little bit of glitter in the frantage powder too.
You can totally mix your own out of one or two colors of UTEE, and a pinch of glitter or regular embossing powder.
