How to create a one layer card with basic masking techniques

Happy Monday!

It's Jasmin here, today I'm bringing you a Krafty tutorial with 2 basic masking techniques. Masking is great for one layered cards and if you use the right product you can usually create a mask that can be used more than once!

Supplies:

Oceans of Love Stamp Set

She Sell Seashells Stencil

Blue Bay Ink Cube

Flirty Flamingo Ink Cube

Lavish Lilac Ink Cube

More product details can be found on my personal blog here

Starting with a white card stock panel, as this is a one layer card I do recommend using alcohol marker friendly card stock or the card stock you prefer for your favourite medium.

Using some low tack masking tape or even a piece of paper with a straight line stuck from the back with washi tape would work for this section too and mask off the area at the bottom of your card, you can leave as much white space as you wish, I've just used the width of the tape I own.

With your chosen images lay them out on your panel in the desired position of how you want them to end up. At this point I like to photo it also so I have a visual memory in case I forget!

You want to take the image that is at the top, this is the one you stamp first. Stamp image onto some masking paper too and fussy cut this image to lay on top. (see 2nd image above)

Repeat this method of stamping and masking the image that will be seen partially behind the front one. Mask all your images even when finished stamping so you can ink over the top.

Ink up from the bottom mask (mask is still in place at this point) with Blue Bay ink, I've not gone all the way to the top I've left a natural white highlight. Now lay your stencil on top, your masks again all still in place and ink over with Lavish Lilac and Flirty Flamingo ink for a 2 tone on the shells.

Now the fun part, remove your masks from the images and the bottom of the card, if you used a low tack tape for your image masks, place these onto the front of the acetate of your stamp set to be able to reuse them again in future!

Now you can colour your images, I've used Copics

Colour Combos:
Dolphin: C9, C7, C5, C3
Turtle: YG95, YG91, YG67, YG63
Octopus 1: YG09, YG06, YG03
Octopus 2: YR24, YR23, YR20

Finally stamp your sentiment at the bottom of your card where you masked off the area at the start.

Recap:
So let's just recap what we learnt today, we masked off a section of the card to leave a white area for our sentiment. We also masked off those images allowing us to create a one layer card.

Why not try masking off your sentiments too, if you want to use part of a sentiment why not use masking tape to section off the part of the stamp you don't want to ink up, just remember to remove the mask part from the sentiment before you actually stamp!

I have a short reel over on Instagram if you would like a quick visual walk through!

I hope you have enjoyed today's krafty tutorial and tips. I'll be back soon with more inspiration!
